Led by Dr. Salar Hazany, a fellowship-trained Mohs Micrographic Surgeon, we specialize in acne scar treatment and scar removal in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills that goes beyond surface healing.

Some patients come to us after treatments that fell short. Others choose us first because they want scar care that is more advanced, more specialized, and built around real results.

A Custom Plan for
Your Scar’s Type, Depth, and Texture

Every scar is unique. Every treatment plan should be too. Our evidence-based approach combines multiple modalities for maximum healing.

Acne Scar Treatments

Acne scars can vary in depth, texture, shape, and how they affect the surrounding skin. At SHI, acne scar treatment is customized to your scar type, using advanced techniques designed to improve texture, smoothness, and visible definition.

Scar Removal Treatments

Scars from surgery, injury, burns, or previous procedures require a plan built around how your skin healed and how the scar sits beneath the surface. Our scar removal and revision treatments are designed to soften, remodel, and improve the appearance of visible scars.

The Different
Types of Scars We Treat

No two scars are exactly alike, which is why no two treatment plans should be either. From acne scars and surgical scars to burns, injuries, and raised scars, Dr. Hazany creates personalized scar revision plans based on the unique characteristics of your scar and your skin.

Acne Scars

We treat ice pick scars, boxcar scars, rolling scars, and other forms of atrophic acne scarring using the Acne Scar Phase-Out System designed around your skin and scar pattern.

Surgical Scars

Whether caused by cosmetic surgery, C-sections, Mohs surgery, or other procedures, surgical scars can often be revised to improve their appearance and blend more naturally with the surrounding skin.

Traumatic Scars

Scars from accidents, injuries, lacerations, dog bites, and other forms of trauma often require specialized treatment based on their depth, location, and how they healed.

Raised Scars

We treat hypertrophic scars and keloids using advanced techniques designed to reduce thickness, improve texture, and create a smoother appearance.

Burn Scars

Burn scars can affect both the appearance and texture of the skin, requiring a customized approach based on the severity of the injury and the characteristics of the scar.

What To Expect At Your First Appointment

Whether you visit Scar Healing Institute in West Hollywood or Beverly Hills, your first appointment focuses on understanding your scar and determining the right treatment approach for your skin. Dr. Hazany will carefully evaluate the factors that shape your personalized treatment plan, including:

  • Your scar type, depth, texture, and location
  • How your scar interacts with the surrounding skin
  • Your skin type and healing history
  • Any previous scar treatments you’ve tried
  • The improvements you want to achieve
  • Which treatment options may be appropriate for your scar

From there, Dr. Hazany will walk you through a personalized plan, explain why specific treatments may be recommended, and help you understand what to expect from the process. The goal is to leave your first appointment with clear answers, a real strategy, and confidence in the next step.

Our 5-Step Phase-Out System. Science-Backed, Patient-Proven.

Unlike one-size-fits-all approaches, our Phase-Out System is curated specifically for your scar type, skin condition, and healing goals. Each phase builds upon the last, creating a noticeable difference in skin texture, scar depth, and appearance.

Phase 1: SHI SCAN

An up-close examination of your skin with ultrasound and dermoscopy followed by a test spot treatment utilizing our proprietary formulations.

Phase 2: SHI CROSS

Full-face treatment to stimulate deep collagen production and accelerate skin exfoliation.

Phase 3: SHI STIM

Biostimulatory injection that awakens fibroblasts in the skin to trigger a synergistic boost in collagen.

Phase 4: SHI LIFT

Multi-layer subcision performed with the latest patented Hazany Liberator to lift scars and smooth skin appearance.

Phase 5: SHI LASE

A finishing laser treatment to fine-tune skin texture and provide a radiant glow.

How We Determine
the Best Treatment for Your Scars

Every scar is different, which means the right treatment depends on what’s causing the scar’s appearance. During your consultation, Dr. Hazany evaluates the characteristics of your scar and selects the treatments most likely to address the underlying issue.

Often Used When…
How It Works
Subcision
Scars are tethered beneath the skin, creating rolling depressions or uneven texture.
A needle or cannula is passed under the scar to release the fibrous bands anchoring it to deeper tissue, letting the surface lift while the controlled injury stimulates new collagen.
SHI CROSS
Ice pick scars and narrow, deep scars require targeted remodeling.
A high concentration of trichloroacetic acid is applied precisely to the base of each scar, triggering a focused healing response that rebuilds collagen and narrows the scar from within.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
Surface irregularities, textural concerns, and certain surgical or traumatic scars need skin resurfacing.
Er:YAG (2940 nm) and CO2 (10,600 nm) lasers resurface scars to rebuild collagen; a Q-switched laser clears post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Matched to your scar type and skin tone.
Dermal Fillers
Volume loss beneath the scar contributes to visible depressions.
Injectable gels are placed under depressed scars to restore lost volume and lift the surface; biostimulatory fillers also encourage the skin to generate its own collagen over time.
Punch Excision
Individual scars are too deep or defined to respond predictably to less invasive treatments alone.
The scar is removed with a small circular tool and the edges are carefully closed, replacing a deep, sharply defined scar with a fine line that heals far less visibly.
Steroid Injections
Raised scars, hypertrophic scars, and keloids require scar-flattening treatment.
Corticosteroids — sometimes paired with 5-fluorouracil — are injected directly into raised scars to break down excess collagen, flattening and softening hypertrophic scars and keloids.

Because every scar and every patient heals differently, effective treatment often means choosing the right technique at the right time. Dr. Hazany builds your plan around your scar’s structure, your skin’s response, and the approach most likely to create meaningful improvement.

How Do Acne & Non-Acne Scars Form?

When skin is injured — by a breakout, incision, burn, or laceration — the body rushes collagen to the area to close the wound fast. It prioritizes speed over precision, so the new collagen rarely matches the surrounding skin. How that plays out determines the scar:

  • Atrophic (depressed) scars form when the skin makes too little collagen, leaving the surface sitting below the skin around it. Most acne scars — ice pick, boxcar, and rolling — are atrophic.
  • Hypertrophic and keloid scars form when the skin makes too much collagen, leaving a raised, firm scar. Keloids can grow beyond the borders of the original wound.
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — the brown or red marks acne often leaves behind — isn’t a true scar, but it frequently accompanies scarring and responds to different treatment than the texture itself.

This is why no single treatment fits every scar: effective revision starts with identifying how your skin healed and matching the technique to the cause, not just the surface.

Meet Dr. Salar Hazany & The Team

Dr. Salar Hazany founded Scar Healing Institute with a personal mission: ensuring no one endures the failed treatments and broken promises his father did.

A fellowship-trained Mohs Micrographic Surgeon, Dr. Hazany was trained to remove skin cancer layer by layer under the microscope — a discipline built on millimeter precision.

He graduated in the top 1% of his class and served as Chief Resident at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and he brings that same exactness to scar revision, where the difference between a good and a great result often comes down to depth and detail.

Before You Book,
You Might Be Wondering …

Investment varies based on scar severity, treatment plan, and your specific goals. During your consultation, we’ll provide transparent pricing and discuss payment options that work for your budget.

In some cases, insurance may provide coverage when a scar causes functional issues or is related to a medically necessary procedure. Because coverage varies by provider and policy, our team can help you understand your options during your consultation.

Every scar heals differently, and the timeline for improvement depends on the type of scar and treatment being performed. During your consultation, Dr. Hazany will discuss what you can realistically expect based on your scar’s unique characteristics and your personalized treatment plan.

Many patients come to SHI after previous treatments failed to deliver the improvement they were hoping for. Rather than relying on a single treatment for every patient, Dr. Hazany carefully evaluates your scar’s structure, depth, texture, and your skin’s healing patterns to create a customized plan designed specifically for you.
